Deputy Director Tina Waskowitz reviewed the transportation studies and a decade of implementation, urging commissioners to “protect the grid” and to rely on multimodal networks and narrow, pedestrian‑oriented street sections to distribute traffic and reduce corridor congestion. She noted that, to date, traffic counts have stayed within earlier projections and that the grid—when completed—creates lane capacity distributed across many small streets rather than a few arterials.
Commissioners asked technical questions about how the code balances building‑type adjacency and the role of the code’s street families; staff indicated these topics could be revisited in future training sessions.
