Commission approves appointments, adopts 2025 meeting and holiday calendars; tables some policy items
Summary
At its Dec. 3 meeting the Cusseta–Chattahoochee County Commission approved minutes and three Board of Elections appointments, adopted the 2025 meeting calendar and employee holiday schedule, and discussed (but did not finalize) cemetery bylaws and sheriff vehicle purchases.
The Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County Board of Commissioners handled routine business and a set of administrative votes at its Dec. 3 regular meeting.
The board unanimously approved minutes for prior meetings and adopted resolutions appointing Nancy Hoard, Valerie Lassiter and Crystal Walker to the county Board of Elections; those resolutions record the appointees’ terms (Nancy Hoard: Jan. 1, 2025–Dec. 31, 2028; Valerie Lassiter: Jan. 1, 2025–Dec. 31, 2026; Crystal Walker: Jan. 1, 2025–Dec. 31, 2028). The commission also adopted its 2025 meeting calendar and a 2025 employee holiday calendar.
On several operational items, commissioners directed further review rather than immediate action. A motion to table Cemetery Bylaws was approved for consideration at a future work session. The County Manager and commissioners discussed sheriff vehicle assignments and a possible purchase; at the Dec. 23 work session staff provided a vehicle inventory and the sheriff’s office representative (Amanda Beaver) clarified staffing and which vehicles are in service. The County Manager said nine vehicles appear on the list including a Tahoe, several Ford F150s and Dodge Chargers, and three 2022 interceptors; commissioners did not authorize an immediate fleet purchase at the regular meeting.
County Attorney Bin Minter told the board he has joined the law firm Clark Hill and that his hourly rate will increase to $325 starting Jan. 1; he recommended formal engagement language to allow file transfers and a vote on the appointment. Commissioners added the attorney engagement item to the agenda for consideration.
The commission entered executive session at 7:43 p.m. to discuss legal matters and reconvened at 8:08 p.m.; the board stated the closed session fell within the legal exceptions to open meetings law and that no votes were taken in executive session.
Other items noted in the work session on Dec. 23 included department updates (recreation, community development, roads, water and fiber work) and a County Manager report that the county is currently adequately provisioned for vehicles but will likely need one replacement after leased vehicles are returned.
