Historic design review board approves stone wall at 5550 Heron Street

The Vermilion Historic Design Review Board on June 4 approved an application by homeowners Jane and Dave Radis to construct a stone wall around their property at 5550 Heron Street.
The applicants told the board the wall is intended primarily to delineate property lines and to discourage pedestrians from cutting across their yard from the adjacent park. "I think mainly to delineate the property lines," one of the applicants said, adding that increased beach traffic has made the barrier necessary.
Board members praised the proposal as consistent with the neighborhood’s historic character. "I love your house," the chair said during discussion, noting the board’s general preference for stone walls in historic areas. A board member, Stein, moved to accept the application as presented; the motion was seconded and carried.
Neighbors from the Wakefield area attended and voiced support for the project. The board did not attach additional conditions beyond the standard review and approval. The application will proceed under the board’s standard permitting process.
The board scheduled its next meeting for July 2, 2025, and adjourned the June 4 session.
