The Historic Design Review Board approved a proposal to replace nine wood windows at 5775 Lake Street with fiberglass/composite Andersen windows meant to match the existing profiles.
Christie, the homeowner, described the property as a long-held family home and said the plan is to replace nine wood windows on a like-for-like basis. A representative said the company would install “light-for-light” awning windows in a double-hung layout, using fiberglass composite frames intended to mimic the exterior appearance of the original wooden frames. The representative acknowledged the new frames may be “a quarter of an inch different” in width compared with the existing wood frames but said the product will closely mimic the current look and improve energy efficiency.
Board members emphasized that profile and rail dimensions are important for historic compatibility, and asked the representative to ensure the exterior appearance and proportions remain consistent. The representative said Andersen’s historic product line is capable of that appearance and that the proposed installation would not alter the house’s character.
A motion to accept the application was made, seconded and approved by roll call. The transcript does not record additional written conditions or a requirement for a follow-up inspection in the meeting record.
