Portage County pilots AI-assisted dispatch; officials expect rollout in about a month

Administrative staff told the committee Portage County has begun an AI-for-dispatch pilot with contractor Aurelien and that the project has encountered some IT glitches that staff are working through. The staff member encouraged committee members to view the system once it is operational.
Staff said one of the main delays is related to incoming phone-line work being handled by AT&T. The sheriff later said he expects the system to be operational in about a month to a month-and-a-half if the phone-line changes can be expedited.
“we've kicked off the AI for dispatch... we've got some glitches in regards to some IT things we're working through, but, Aurelien is the company that we've contracted with,” an administrator said. The sheriff added the timeline depends on expedited AT&T work and said, “I'm thinking a month, month and a half.”
Next steps: staff will continue testing the pilot, work with AT&T to resolve phone-line issues, and invite committee members to observe the system once it is stable.
