Portage County EMS fields two new ambulances and eyes rural health funding

An EMS official told the Public Safety Committee that two ambulances ordered in 2023 were delivered last Wednesday and have been put into service: one is first-line in Plover, and the other is in Stevens Point but not in first-line rotation while medics train on the new vehicle.
“our 2 new ambulances that were, ordered in 2023 were delivered last Wednesday. They are in service right now,” the EMS official said. The official added they expect a repaired ambulance to be delivered in May; once that unit returns, the department plans to sell two older ambulances and noted spring is a better market for selling surplus vehicles.
The EMS official also described participation in a Wisconsin Rural Health Transformation Program webinar that highlighted potential funding for increasing medical services in rural areas, including prehospital care; the official said Portage County would qualify and will continue to monitor funding opportunities.
Next steps: EMS staff will continue internal training on the new ambulance boxes, track the arrival of the repaired unit, and proceed with sales of older units when appropriate.
