The city will close the Jerusalem Road bridge spanning Round Hill Creek after a bridge inspection contractor for ODOT recommended immediate closure, Service Director Valeris told the Vermilion City Council.
"Based on findings from the inspection, ODOT recommend the immediate closure of the bridge," Valeris said. The street department has installed temporary barricades and signage and staff are working to install a more permanent closure with appropriate barricades.
Valeris said the city is exploring whether it is eligible for supplemental emergency funding to replace the bridge. He also notified east-side residents that the water-distribution department will begin flushing this week, and that residents may experience higher water pressure or brief discoloration during the work.
Council did not take further formal action at the meeting beyond receiving the report; Valeris said the situation will continue to be monitored and updates provided to residents as plans for replacement funding and permanent closures develop.
