Architect George Garcia described a quick vision and site plan that reinterprets historical vernacular in a modern context, and he emphasized the materials shown were illustrative. Garcia said the proposal includes underground parking to preserve surface open space and new pedestrian connections to the eastern side of 2nd Avenue, and that the design is intended as an example of what could be done, not a final plan.
Wigder also proposed strategic park acquisitions — including an old church site near Palmetto and 12th and a lot adjacent to Wildflower Park — as potential neighborhood gateways into downtown. He suggested funding could come in part from recreation funds and county cooperation and said the city would seek appraisals if the board supports further study.
Both Wigder and Garcia framed the presentation as a starting point for public input and additional design work; Wigder said he expects formal public engagement and possible future workshops to refine options. No formal CRA action or funding commitment was made at the meeting; the items were presented for discussion and possible future study.
