Resident requests Animal Control Shelter records as advisory group plans walk-through

During the Feb. 10 meeting John Bates of 2346 Liatris Drive in Plainfield presented a formal public records request for documents related to the Animal Control Shelter and told Executive Director Todd McCormack that the county has seven business days to respond and must provide appeal information if the request is denied.
Separately, Commissioners appointed Dr. Darcy Crook as the proxy veterinarian to serve on the Animal Control Advisory Group; the motion was made by Commissioner Bob Gentry, seconded by Commissioner Brad Whicker and approved 3-0-0. Commissioner Gentry announced the next advisory group meeting is scheduled for Feb. 24, 2026 at 5:30 PM and a facility walk-through is set for Feb. 19 at 4:00 PM. Commissioner Gentry expressed appreciation for Executive Director Todd McCormack’s handling of prior meetings.
The record request and the advisory group schedule are separate items: the record request triggers the county’s public records response timeline, while the advisory group actions set meeting and review dates for the shelter.
