The Vermilion Historic Design Review Board voted Feb. 4 to accept an application to alter the rear of a commercial building, add a rear entrance for access to previously unused square footage and repaint the exterior to match the existing front elevation.
Applicant Mike Mills presented drawings to the board and said the work would solve access issues created when a loading/ramp door was removed and the rear area was no longer at the same elevation as the front. Mills said the plan includes filling openings and installing a new rear door that will match the frontage where visible from public vantage points.
A board member urged continuity of color and finish; Mills said he expected to continue the same color and asked the board to allow matching the existing facade. After discussion, a member moved to accept the application and another seconded; the motion carried on a voice vote of members present.
No additional conditions were recorded in the meeting minutes; the board thanked the applicant and closed the item.
