Cusseta‑Chattahoochee commissioners approve insurance renewal, forestry agreement, reappointments and roundabout grant

Employee insurance renewal: Commissioners approved the county's employee insurance renewal after a motion by Commissioner Jason Frost and a second by Commissioner Gerald Douglas. The vote was unanimous.
Georgia Forestry Commission agreement: The board passed a resolution authorizing execution of a Fire Tower Agreement with the Georgia Forestry Commission covering July 1, 2024–June 30, 2025. The agreement sets a county payment cap "not to exceed Four Thousand Seven Hundred Thirty Eight Dollars and Fifty Eight Cents ($4,738.58)," and Forestry will provide temporary fire tower operator(s) and documentation of services.
Reappointments to regional transit authority: The Commission reappointed Commissioner Timothy Biddle to the Lower Chattahoochee Regional Transportation Authority for a term expiring June 30, 2028, and reappointed Commissioner Gerald Douglas for a term expiring June 30, 2026. Both reappointments were approved by motion and unanimous vote.
GA Highway 520 roundabout grant: The board approved acceptance of a grant for the GA Highway 520 roundabout project that carries a 40/60 match; County Manager Thomas Weaver said the county's maximum potential obligation would not exceed $52,000 and that final costs may be lower if actual utility relocation expenses are less than estimates.
Other items discussed: County staff said the county received an initial LMIG payment of $155,000 and is applying for a supplemental award that together should total approximately $350,000. At the June 24 work session the manager also reported a sewer grant application had been completed and accepted, and staff briefed commissioners on a planned county‑wide fiber build by Charter/Spectrum/Bingham Construction expected to reach about 90% of the county by mid‑December. Solid‑waste service bids were presented (GFL: $20/month + $5/tire; Jones Sanitation: $23.50/month; Zero Waste: $25.52/month) and commissioners directed awarding the contract to appear on a future agenda.
The motions recorded in June were mostly procedural approvals; commissioners asked that departments present and explain any future budget amendments in public session.
