Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County holds hearings; millage rate remains at 8.512 mills

The Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County, Georgia presented the proposed millage rate at two public hearings in August and confirmed the rate to remain at 8.512 mills.

At a called hearing on Aug. 19 Chairman Charles Coffey and County Manager Thomas Weaver explained the 8.512 figure and noted the school rate of 17.30 mills. Coffey said the county tax digest is public record; Weaver told the commission the proposed rate was “basically staying the same as last year.” At the Aug. 26 hearing officials repeated the 8.512 proposal and noted the county’s gross digest had increased by just under $64 million; no members of the public spoke at that session.

Weaver and staff also discussed next steps for formal adoption: the millage figure will be placed on the Sept. 3 regular meeting agenda as a voting item. County officials said the Tax Assessor and Tax Commissioner staff prepared a five‑year history and other digest materials for public review. The hearings were adjourned without changes to the proposed rate.

The hearings and supporting documents are recorded as public record and available from the county clerk’s office, according to officials. The next procedural step is the scheduled vote at the commission’s Sept. 3 meeting.
