Grace Point Resource Center awarded $15,000 from Jasper County Opioid Fund

The Jasper County Board of Commissioners approved a $15,000 grant from the county Opioid Fund on Feb. 2 to support Grace Point Resource Center in Rensselaer.
Director Brian Hannon told the board the nonprofit provides free counseling, classes and preventive services addressing issues that can lead to substance use disorders. "From our opening until now we have served over 2,000 people, had over 15,000 interactions ... and offered over 5,000 hours of free counseling," Hannon said, adding that counselors undergo an 18‑month certification before joining staff. He said last year the center provided 910 counseling hours and 212 of those were for those struggling with addiction. The center also offers quarterly CPR and Narcan training.
Commissioners approved the $15,000 request and designated the Opioid Restricted fund as the source. The director said Grace Point operates with one paid staff member and about 25 volunteers and relies on grants and donations to provide services free to clients.
The board recorded the award as part of routine allocations from restricted opioid funds to local treatment and prevention providers.
