Jasper County approves $50,000 in opioid‑fund grants for two recovery programs

Commissioner Ryan Hilton, who said he had attended House of Grace’s banquet, praised the organizations for helping participants reenter the workforce. "Whether they have a 35% or 40% success rate these individuals and these ladies are wanting to better themselves and their lives and that is very important," Hilton said. Commissioner Craig Standish emphasized the local need and noted prior comments from Sheriff Williamson about the importance of transition services for people leaving detention.
Woven Hope, a 501(c)(3) that provides addiction recovery and workforce integration services for women, requested $20,000 to support facility renovations; commissioners approved paying that amount from unrestricted opioid funds. House of Grace requested $30,000, and commissioners approved that request from restricted opioid funds, with a motion from Hilton and a second from Standish.
President Rein Bontreger said the county plans to develop a more formal grant application process in the future, potentially with assistance from the Jasper‑Newton Foundation, but commissioners judged these immediate needs to be community priorities.
What’s next: Funds will be disbursed per county procedures; commissioners said they will discuss developing a formal application process and possibly enlist local foundation support to standardize future awards.
