Warren County commissioners approve transfer of Davis Concord Cemetery to Medina Township

Warren County commissioners voted to approve Resolution No. 2026, authorizing transfer of the Davis Concord Cemetery to Medina Township and putting management, maintenance and plot sales under township authority.

County staff introduced the request, saying Medina Township had docketed the cemetery with the circuit court and received an order allowing the township to take over management. Ingrid (S6) told the board the township approached trustees and citizens had shown interest in buying plots and maintaining the site. “The township docketed the cemetery with the circuit court upstairs and received an order approving the transfer over to Medina Township,” Ingrid said.

Ingrid also cautioned about standard transfer pathways: “It’s not a great policy under Indiana code to transfer it from a defunct cemetery association back to a township if there’s a procedure to transfer to a county,” she said, noting the township had taken the court route and requested the county’s blessing. Commissioners asked clarifying questions about ongoing maintenance and who would handle plowing for short sections of access road; staff confirmed limited plowing would continue under the current arrangement.

Commissioner (S3) moved to approve the resolution; Commissioner (S5) seconded the motion and the board approved it by voice vote. Chair (S1) said the formal signing would occur at a subsequent meeting once paperwork is finalized.

The transfer gives Medina Township authority to maintain and sell plots for the cemetery; staff said the township will provide the county with documentation and the board will sign the finalized paperwork at the next meeting.
