Orange County proclaims April as Donate Life Month, Child Abuse Prevention Month and Cambodian Heritage Month

The Orange County Board of Supervisors opened its April 22 meeting with three proclamations recognizing April as Donate Life Month, Child Abuse Prevention Month and Cambodian Heritage Month.
Chair Doug Chaffee highlighted national and state transplant statistics and noted that a single organ donor can save up to eight lives; he invited transplant recipient Dr. Robert Hill and representatives from LifeSaves/L1 Legacy to speak. Dr. Hill described receiving a heart and kidney transplant and thanked donors and medical teams for enabling him to continue community service.
County and prosecution officials marked Child Abuse Prevention Month by reviewing local referral and foster‑care statistics: board members and Social Services Agency representatives cited roughly 26,172 referrals to the county social services agency in 2024 and emphasized prevention, family resource centers and collaboration with law enforcement. District Attorney‑office representatives introduced and recognized prosecutors with family‑protection responsibilities.
Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento introduced leaders from the Cambodian Family Community Center and invited executive director Vatana Peng to the podium; Peng said the organization has served Cambodian refugees and families for 45 years and described its programs and community impact.
The proclamations were ceremonial and intended to raise awareness and highlight partner organizations and support services across the county.
