At the March 2 meeting, Marilyn Grill of 1745 Cooper Foster Park spoke during public comment to urge the council to address a tow-truck and vehicle-storage business on the north side of Route 6 at Balmar Road, calling it an "ugly eyesore" and asking whether it meaningfully contributes tax revenue to the city.
"Does this business really add any revenue to our city?" Grill asked. Council members and staff discussed that the parcel is owned by IRG and has been under a long-standing lease and, for years, received a tax abatement that reduced its real-estate tax contributions. The service director said staff would look into cleanup concerns and follow up with the speaker.
Councilmembers flagged possible next steps including checking lease and tax-abatement status, verifying property boundaries, and confirming whether the vacant parcel is inside city limits; one member suggested reviewing the tax-abatement expiration and bringing any findings back to council.
Next step: Service director and staff to investigate the parcel’s ownership, tax-abatement status and options for cleanup or enforcement and report back at a future meeting or through staff communications.
