The Sevier County Board of Commissioners appointed Donnie B. Adams as interim road superintendent on Dec. 15, 2025, filling the seat left vacant when Jonas Smelcer resigned effective Sept. 1, 2025. Chairman (Mayor) Larry Waters announced the steering committee’s recommendation and the board voted to confirm Adams on a voice vote, 24 Yes, 0 No, 1 Absent.
Bryan Delius moved to appoint Adams; Carrol Rauhuff seconded the motion. Following the vote, Donnie B. Adams was sworn in and began serving immediately as interim road superintendent until an elected successor takes office. Under the timetable presented at the meeting, the interim appointment runs through Aug. 31, 2026, with the primary election in May 2026 and the general election in August 2026 determining the next full-term officeholder.
The appointment was conducted under the requirement that nominees be certified by the Tennessee Highway Official Certification Board. No members of the public offered nominations from the audience during the meeting.
