The Boca Raton City Council unanimously adopted an ordinance on Nov. 18 that implements state authority to restrict prolonged or repeated nighttime anchoring within city waterways. Staff said the measure tracks Florida’s 2025 legislation and gives the city an additional enforcement tool to address long‑term anchoring that can create navigational and safety hazards or contribute to derelict vessel proliferation.
Deputy City Manager Sahony told the council the ordinance limits nighttime anchoring to no more than 30 nights in any rolling six‑month period and provides enforcement mechanisms, penalties and appeals processes consistent with the new state authorization. Councilmembers thanked staff for pursuing the legislative remedy and for drafting local implementing language.
The ordinance passed 5–0.
