Commissioners authorize $243,800 GMP amendment for Highlands School and award Carson turn-lane contract

The Macon County Board of Commissioners authorized a construction action and approved a transportation bid during its June 11 meeting.
County Manager Derek Roland told the board that to permit summer work at Highlands School the county must authorize execution of a construction contract with Vannoy Construction including a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) Amendment 1 in the amount of $243,800. Roland said the amount covers an environmental assessment and mechanical and electrical work tied to boiler installation. "This cost includes an environmental assessment in addition to mechanical and electrical costs associated with the boiler installation," he said.
The board approved the motion to authorize the County Manager to enter into the contract containing GMP Amendment 1 by a 4'1 roll-call (Commissioner Higdon opposed). Roland said the authorization allows the county to proceed with summer work under the contract amendment.
Separately, Solid Waste Director Chris Stahl reviewed the bid process for the Carson Convenience Center 64E turn lane and the board unanimously awarded the contract to Parrish Contracting for $249,000 and authorized the County Manager to sign the contract.
No further contract details were approved in open session; the board tabled four inter-local agreements with the Macon County Board of Education so county legal counsel could review and correct the documents.
