The Lee County Board on Sept. 17 adopted resolution 24-013 to recertify use of a $713,390 distribution from the Bristol Transportation District Regional Improvement Committee.
The County administrator described the distribution as an earmarked payment that member localities may use for education, public safety or transportation. "This year, the contribution was $713,390," the County administrator said. The regional auditor requested a resolution clarifying the intended use; the board adopted resolution 24-013 by voice vote.
Board members discussed whether to obligate the entire sum to education, noting that doing so could reduce flexibility for transportation or emergency-services needs if circumstances change. The administrator offered to rework allocation language and suggested the resolution can be revisited annually.
The resolution adoption was intended to meet the district's audit requirement and preserve the county's ability to obligate funds for the 2023–24 fiscal year.
Next steps: staff will finalize the resolution language and file the recertification with the Bristol Transportation District as required by the regional auditor.
