Courtney Cook, representing Clay Plant pottery in Bloomingdale, asked the Parke County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 16 to designate Clay Plant as an official Parke County Covered Bridge Festival location, which would make it the festival’s tenth official site.
Cook said Clay Plant has participated in the festival for four years and reported growth from 15 to 30 vendors with potential to reach 50 vendors in the near future. Commissioners responded that official festival locations have historically been towns and that the county should create a set of criteria for designating official sites and policies for locations that fall outside incorporated towns.
The board did not make an immediate decision and asked staff to consider how to handle requests from locations outside town boundaries and to return with proposed criteria.
