Lee County Board Approves Routine Motions, Appoints Building Official and Funds Legal-Aid Request

At its regular meeting, the Lee County Board of Supervisors carried a series of routine motions, approved funding for legal-services programming and made several appointments.
The board approved minutes, paid the bills and approved disbursements after motions and seconding. A representative of the Southwest Virginia Legal Aid Society asked the board to continue a $2,500 annual contribution from the direct-distribution fund for a cooperative partnership program; a board member moved to approve and the board voted to support the request.
The board also addressed multiple appointment items on the agenda. After closed session, supervisors appointed Josh Cox as the county’s building official effective March 1 with an annual salary of $50,000; the motion to appoint Cox was made and seconded and the board voted in favor. The board agreed to re-advertise the bid for a general service agreement and adopted a resolution that was moved and carried.
A series of other routine appointments and tables were recorded: Appalachian Juvenile Commission appointments were tabled, while nominations to regional boards (Bristol Transportation District, Ninth District Development Finance, Regional Industrial Facilities Authority, Southwest Regional Recreation Authority and the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority) were made, seconded and carried where noted.
What’s next: The board scheduled follow-up and indicated staff would prepare items for subsequent meetings as needed. Several items were deferred to future meetings or to closed-session review.
