Speaker 1 moved to approve the purchase under the Stone Garden grant; Speaker 2 seconded. The record shows two vocal "Aye" responses and the motion carried. Officials said the binoculars will be issued primarily to sergeants and deputies; the vendor provided a manufacturer warranty of one year.
The requester told the board the county has historically spent Stone Garden money on a side-by-side vehicle and a patrol vehicle in prior years; with the change in federal guidance the county must document this intended use in the grant or undergo a lengthy federal order change. After the vote the presenter thanked the commission.
The approved line-item uses most of the $20,000 grant, leaving slightly less than $2,000 in the grant balance for other eligible expenses.
