Lee County OKs $700,000 ARC grant to extend Stigleyville waterline

Lee County supervisors authorized acceptance of a $700,000 Appalachian Regional Commission grant on Feb. 18 to fund the Stigleyville (Wallen Street phase 1) waterline expansion.
County administrator (speaker 5) told the board the grant completes funding for the project and that no county funds would be necessary to finish the work. "This grant ... and no county funds would be necessary to complete this project," the administrator said, asking the board to authorize execution of interagency and administrative agreements to accept the award and proceed with appropriation paperwork.
Supervisors moved, seconded and approved the request to accept the grant and sign required documents.
Why it matters: the $700,000 award from the Appalachian Regional Commission will finance infrastructure expansion intended to extend safe water service in the Stigleyville area; staff indicated the project will proceed without a county funding match.
Next steps: county staff were authorized to sign paperwork and administrative agreements and proceed with grant-required steps to begin the phase-1 waterline work.
