Glacier County approves $47,620 contract for courthouse ADA survey and design

Glacier County commissioners approved contracting Staley Engineering to perform survey and engineering design work for exterior ADA upgrades to the Glacier County Courthouse. Aaron Kenfner of Staley Engineering presented a three-phase approach that prioritizes the front entrance, stairway and ADA access in Phase I and allows the county to phase subsequent work along Fifth and Sixth streets.
Kenfner outlined design and survey fees (survey and civil design plus structural work) and recommended a geotechnical investigation; the engineering and survey work was quoted at roughly $38,200, with a geotechnical fee of $9,420, producing a combined total of $47,620 if the county approves the geotech scope. "Phase 1 will be what was identified as most important ... the front entrance there, the stairway and the ADA access to the parking and the rear door," Kenfner said.
Commissioners said phasing the project would help manage costs and maintain building access during construction. The board approved the $47,620 contract with Staley Engineering by motion and voice vote and asked staff to proceed with the survey as soon as weather allows; Kenfner said the survey crew could possibly be on-site "perhaps the end of this week or next."
