Glacier County adopts resolution appointing David Hegstedt as special deputy county attorney

Glacier County commissioners on Feb. 10 voted to adopt Resolution No. 262020Six-four, appointing attorney David Hegstedt as a special deputy county attorney to assist the county on collection cases and certain Indian Health Service (IHS)-related matters.
The county attorney, speaking at the meeting, said the appointment formalizes assistance the county has received in collection matters and in cases where outside counsel is needed. He explained that appointing someone as a special deputy county attorney does not necessarily mean the county will pay all of that attorney’s fees; in some matters, third parties may cover costs.
"We need him appointed as special deputy county attorney," the county attorney said, describing recent workloads and the need to replace co-counsel in some cases. The county attorney referenced past appointments (Kirk Evenson) and said Hegstedt’s availability will help the county manage litigation and other legal needs.
A commissioner who moved the resolution praised Hegstedt as well prepared and knowledgeable after meeting him. The board moved, seconded and approved the resolution by voice vote.
The resolution authorizes Hegstedt to act as special deputy county attorney for Glacier County; the county attorney indicated Hegstedt will be available as needed and that case-by-case billing arrangements will determine whether the county pays any fees.
