Glacier County approves $424 budget amendment for Glacier Park Lights

The Glacier County Commission on Feb. 24 approved a small budget amendment after officials reported that the Glacier Park Lights program exceeded its approved fiscal-year budget.
Commission chair Speaker 4 introduced the item as Resolution 2026-5. Chancy Kinston, who spoke for the program, told commissioners, “Glacier Park Lights exceeded its budget, which was the original approved budget of $6,500 and ended up at the end of the year was $6,923.8,” and said the county posted public notice of the overrun per legal requirements.
Kinston said the difference — roughly $424 — was funded from general fund unbudgeted cash reserves and recommended moving the program's expense into the county's regular utilities line going forward. “We forecast every year on what it's going to be ... but we've increased incrementally every year,” he said.
There was no public comment on the item. Speaker 5 moved to approve Resolution 2026-5, approving budget amendment 2410 for Glacier Park Lights; the motion passed by voice vote.
Why it matters: The change clears a minor year-end shortfall and signals an administrative fix to avoid repeated small overrun amendments. County staff said the adjustment fulfills the public-notice requirement for expenditures outside the adopted budget.
The commission moved on to other business and set its next meeting for Feb. 26 in Cut Bank.
