Glacier County commissioners voted unanimously March 3 to place a proposed $90,000 annual mill levy for Cut Bank Regional Airport on the ballot.
The measure, identified as Resolution 2026-03, would ask voters to approve an annual countywide appropriation of $90,000 (discussed at the meeting as approximately 2.46 mils) for a limited period. Commissioners and staff worked through wording to ensure the ballot question includes a clear statement of impact so voters can estimate how much their taxes would change if the measure passes.
Commissioner Mitchel moved approval of the resolution and the Chair seconded; the board voted aye. There was no public comment during the hearing on the measure.
Staff and presenters discussed technical ballot-language details before the vote. Crystal (staff) recommended using a dollar amount rather than “mils” in the ballot language so voters can more easily understand potential tax changes. Rick Geiger, who presented the item, said recent legislative changes and updated property valuations reduced the estimated economic impact on homeowners. "The economic impact for a homeowner has actually gone down a little quite a bit," Rick Geiger said.
County staff agreed Mandy would merge the statement of impact into the ballot question and provide a Word version for the county’s required notices and publication. The board confirmed the levy is intended to be time-limited; staff said it would become effective in the next fiscal year and be reflected on the tax roll in the fall if approved by voters.
The resolution was recorded as Resolution 2026-03 (Cut Bank Regional Airport mill levy) and approved with a unanimous vote. The board instructed staff to finalize the ballot language and the publication notices required before the election.
