Glacier County approves $15,346.17 transmission replacement for county semi

Glacier County commissioners on Nov. 17, 2025, approved purchasing and installing a new transmission for a county road department semi after staff reported the truck lost fifth gear.
A road department representative described the work: the repair would replace the rear portion of the transmission, add a new yoke and driveline and install a 13-speed transmission to better withstand heavy-haul use. He relayed a quote from Glacier Motors for parts and labor of $15,346.17. "With the total price with the transmission, labor, all that stuff is at 15,346 and 17¢," the representative said.
Commissioners expressed support for completing the repair promptly because the truck is an important heavy-hauler for county operations. A motion to purchase the new transmission from repair and maintenance funds was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. Staff said they hoped to get the truck into the shop "like today or tomorrow" but did not give a definitive repair date.
The purchase was authorized and staff will schedule the work with the quoted vendor.
