The Town of Cramerton Board of Commissioners approved several formal items at its Nov. 3, 2022 work session, including a personnel-policy update for firefighters and an engineering change order for the town’s downtown parking-lot project.
In procedural business, Mayor Pro Tempore Susan Neeley opened the meeting, and the board voted 5–0 to adopt an amended agenda after Interim Town Manager Leamon Brice requested adding a discussion of a budget amendment for the parking lot. The board also approved a consent agenda setting public hearings for three rezoning requests: RZ22-04 (J&J Upholstery CZ), RZ22-05 (Wilkinson Car Lot CZ) and RZ22-06 (Andrew Auto CZ).
Personnel policy: Brice told the board a personnel-policy revision was needed to manage retirement eligibility under the Local Government Employee Retirement System when firefighters work more than 1,000 hours a year. He said five firefighters will be designated as exceeding the 1,000-hour threshold. Commissioner Helms moved to adopt the policy change; Commissioner Ramsey seconded the motion and the board approved it 5–0.
Parking lot engineering and budget: The board had previously approved up to $100,000 for the downtown parking-lot project at a special-called meeting on Oct. 29. Brice reported an additional engineering fee has increased the project cost to more than $100,000. Commissioner Helms moved to approve the engineering change order and to return with a budget amendment to cover the added expense; Commissioner Kincaid seconded, and the motion passed 5–0.
Other business: Commissioner Atkinson received permission from the board to discuss veterans memorial pavers and will follow up on vendor pricing and placement logistics; Mayor Pro Tempore Neeley relayed a citizen complaint about an early-morning exercise group occupying downtown parking and Chief Adams said he would check for any noise violation. The board adjourned at 7:30 p.m. on a 5–0 vote.
Outcome summary: Multiple motions were adopted unanimously; no items were tabled or failed.
