Cramerton directs Viz Design to finalize bid for Centennial Center shade sail; paver choices set

The Town of Cramerton on May 5 moved to advance its downtown streetscape work when the board voted to direct Viz Design to finalize and release bid documents for a Centennial Center shade sail and related streetscape improvements.
Gary Fankhauser of Viz Design presented two paver choices: Savannah for the parking area and Fossil for permeable sidewalk pavers; he also said the shade sail manufacturer will engineer the footings to preserve warranty requirements. Commissioner Atkinson moved to direct Viz Design to finalize and release the bid; Commissioner Ramsey seconded the motion and the board recorded the vote as 4 to 0.
City staff and board members discussed permitting (permits from the county will be required because of electrical work), irrigation and grading work for the shade sail area, sequencing with parking-lot construction that is scheduled to begin in June, and a QR code and website information to guide parking during construction. David Pugh, town manager, said work on the parking lot will begin at the start of June and that the paver lead time is about eight weeks.
Why it matters: The streetscape work is part of downtown revitalization and includes public-space improvements that will affect downtown businesses during construction. The board asked staff to coordinate notifications and staging so businesses can use the upper parking area for a limited time.
What happens next: Staff will coordinate permitting with the county and finalize bid documents with Viz Design; bids may be released after permitting is ready, anticipated at the end of the month. The town recorded the action to proceed but did not yet award construction contracts.
