State budget includes $10,000 for Cramerton Historical Society; representative highlights school-safety funding and local transportation follow-up

A state representative attending the July 14 meeting told the Board that the governor had signed the 2022 state budget and that the Cramerton Historical Society would receive a $10,000 award to be processed in about six weeks.
The representative also summarized other budget priorities: additional funding for school safety and security that the representative said will provide a school resource officer in each school; and pending Medicaid negotiation work when legislators return to session in December. He said he is co-sponsoring a bill related to electric vehicles and warned that charging stations receiving subsidies may include a notice on receipts indicating the subsidy.
Commissioner Helms asked for help with the South Fork River low-head dam once the feasibility study is available; the representative offered to write a letter of support. Separately, the Town Manager later noted the board approved $10,000 toward the feasibility study during the meeting.
What’s next: The state check to the Historical Society is expected once state processing is complete; town staff and the representative will coordinate follow-up on NCDOT and the feasibility study as requested.
