Cramerton board agrees to revise bylaws for Community Committee and advisory boards

Commissioners discussed a proposed reorganization and clarification of town committees on Sept. 1, with staff recommending that committee governance for the Community Committee and Parks & Recreation Advisory Board be shifted from ordinance language to town policy.
Mayor Nelson Wills said he circulated a committee chart and staff presented proposed bylaw amendments. Town attorney Karen Wolter told the board the Code of Ordinances currently lists the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and the Community Committee and that staff recommended removing them from ordinance codification and handling committee structure by policy instead. Commissioners asked for clearer language about membership counts, whether board members could serve on committees and how volunteer or general membership would be handled.
Commissioner Atkinson flagged a sentence he said suggested decision‑making authority should rest with the Board of Commissioners and requested wording changes; the board agreed staff and legal would prepare corrected bylaw language and that the matter would return for review. Mayor Pro Tempore Neeley said she will continue as liaison and commissioners requested the committee chairs present directly to the board in future updates.
