Cramerton delays final vote on land use update after resident questions

The Town of Cramerton Board of Commissioners on May 19 opened a public hearing on an update to the town’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan but voted to continue the hearing to its June 2 meeting to give residents more time to review the draft online.
Resident Ali Bahr, of 202 Front Street, told commissioners her neighborhood ‘‘seems to be transitional which will be a combination of retail and residential’’ and asked whether homes would be rezoned, whether businesses buying homes would be required to retain a historic appearance, and what the plan’s effects would be on parking and street patterns. Attorney Wolter confirmed the board could continue the hearing, and Town Manager David Pugh recommended formal consideration at the June 2 meeting to allow the remaining procedural steps to proceed.
Commissioners discussed adding a short paragraph reflecting ‘‘how we see things’’ to the plan and requested the Planning Director check online engagement metrics so the public can be directed to the draft. Commissioner Atkinson asked for the Small Area Plan for Center Street to be updated to reflect current site plans and for that level of detail to be added as an appendix if the contractor can provide it.
No formal action was taken on the land use plan at the May 19 meeting; the hearing was opened and continued to the June 2 meeting for further review and possible adoption.
