Macon County Fair Association seeks $50,000 from county for safety, security upgrades

At the Feb. 13 meeting, Dennis Conley, co-chair of the Macon County Fair Association, told commissioners the association had received a $250,000 grant for fairgrounds infrastructure but still needed an additional $50,000 to fund safety and security improvements, such as a radio and monitoring system across the grounds. Conley said fundraising is difficult because the grounds are often rented to nonprofits and noted the fair last requested county funds 15 years ago.
Commissioner Young recommended the association include the $50,000 request in the next annual budget process rather than seeking immediate funding; Conley agreed that the need was not immediate. Commissioner Young also said he would raise a beaver problem in the fairgrounds creek with Parks and Recreation Director Seth Adams.
The request was informational in the record; no appropriation or formal vote on county funding for the fairgrounds was taken at the meeting.
