Parks & Recreation panel selects McGill & Associates for Master Plan Phase I; commissioners call for soil tests and school coordination

Parks and Recreation Director Seth Adams told the Macon County Board on Jan. 9 that three firms responded to the RFQ for Phase I of the county’s Recreation Master Plan and that the Recreation Committee selected McGill & Associates to move forward. Adams said he will negotiate a fee schedule with the selected firm.
Phase I, as described by Adams, includes nine pickleball courts, eight tennis courts, a covered bridge and a shelter. Commissioners stressed technical checks and interagency coordination: Commissioner Shearl suggested performing soil samples independently from fee negotiations, and Commissioner Higdon urged working with the school system so court designs will accommodate the high school tennis team.
Adams will proceed to negotiate fees with McGill & Associates; the board did not take a separate vote to award a contract at this meeting.
Why it matters: the Phase I plan sets priorities for county recreation infrastructure and could affect school athletics if tennis court specifications do not match school needs.
