Box Butte County board directs GIS termination letter, declines Public Defender lease renewal and appoints four to planning commission

The Box Butte County Board of Commissioners on March 4 directed its county attorney to prepare a termination letter for GIS services, declined to renew a Public Defender office lease and appointed four residents to the county Planning Commission.
Chairman Steve Burke said the commissioners asked County Attorney Marissa Curtiss to draft a termination letter to GWorks for GIS services; the draft letter is to be reviewed at the March 18, 2026 meeting. "The Commissioners have asked County Attorney Curtiss to draft a termination letter to GWorks for GIS services to be reviewed on March 18, 2026," the minutes state.
In separate action the board voted to notify MJLC, LLC that it will not renew the Public Defender office space lease; the motion carried with unanimous votes recorded for Commissioners Ditsch, Sautter and Burke. The minutes do not record reasons for the non-renewal or any replacement office plan.
The board entered executive session at 10:45 a.m. for a performance evaluation with County Attorney Marissa Curtiss and others present, and reconvened at 11:05 a.m.; no action was taken as a result of the closed session.
Chairman Burke moved, and Commissioner Brett Ditsch seconded, to appoint Trent Benzel, Barb Raben, Ryan Reiber and Jerry Underwood to the Box Butte County Planning Commission; the motion was approved unanimously. The appointments were recorded in the minutes with no additional comment about term lengths or responsibilities.
