Chairman Jay Thompson called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. and the body recorded all five commissioners — Jay Thompson (chair), Rusty Jacksland, John L. Thrailkill, Bill Tatum and Terry Tanner — as present. Commissioners approved the minutes of the Feb. 17, 2026 regular meeting and authorized payment of invoices received through March 3, 2026.
The consent docket approved a slate of employee travel and training (including conferences in Orange Beach, Greenville, Opelika, Eufaula and Montgomery) and established a six-month probationary period for EMA administrative clerk Janice Benz (date of hire Sept. 2, 2025). The commission also declared Sheriff unit #834 (a 2013 Dodge Charger, VIN 2C3DXBG8DH523583) surplus and authorized its sale on GovDeals.com.
The commission adopted Resolution No. 2026-13 recognizing April 2026 as the Month of the Military Child and urged local support for military-connected children and families. It also approved Resolution No. 2026-14 directing the chair to execute an agreement to renew Autauga County’s membership in the Association of County Commissions of Alabama Liability Self-Insurance Fund, Inc. for calendar years 2027–2029.
On personnel matters, the commission approved hiring Chase David Walters as a deputy sheriff (pending background and drug screening) to replace a resignation; granted a one-year, one-step pay increase for part-time driver Codey Cotton; approved hiring Todd Bitondo as a Mechanic Apprentice I and Kalvin Thomas as a Mechanic (both pending background/drug tests) to replace, respectively, a terminated employee and a retiree; and accepted the resignation of Engineering Assistant Jonathan Hayden effective Feb. 23, 2026 with approval to hire a replacement.
Commissioners approved a budget amendment increasing line item 001-51105-193 by $15,000 to reflect an insurance reimbursement. The commission suspended the rules to approve donating six yards of top soil to Marbury Middle School for its STEM garden and waived facility fees for Billingsley FFA to use the R. H. Kirkpatrick Arena on May 16, 2026 for a barrel race associated with an upcoming state convention.
The board entered executive session at 5:28 p.m. and reconvened at 6:01 p.m.; the minutes do not record any formal public action resulting from the executive session. The meeting adjourned at 6:29 p.m.; the commission is scheduled to reconvene March 17, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.
