The Claiborne County Commission on July 15 approved Resolution 2019-052 setting the county's combined property tax levy for fiscal 2019-20 and, following an amendment, retained the 2018-19 rate of $2.5777 per $100 of assessed value.
Commissioner David Mundy initially moved to set a flat $2.58 rate, but Commissioner Zach Mullins moved to amend so the levy would remain the same as the 2018-19 rate ($2.5777); the amendment passed on roll call 20-1. The commission then approved the amended levy on final roll call 21-0.
The amended breakouts in the resolution allocate portions of the levy to the General Fund, Solid Waste, Highway/Public Works, General Debt Service, Highway Capital Projects, General Purpose School and Industrial Board. The resolution also notes it takes effect upon passage and is to be spread upon the commission minutes.
The vote followed the commission's adoption of the annual appropriations and is the formal action that establishes the county's tax rate for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2019.
