Claiborne County Commission approves grader purchases, community grants and new agenda rule

Commissioner David Mundy moved the measure and Commissioner James Hatmaker seconded; the roll call vote was 20–0 in favor. The purchases were included in the 2018–19 Highway Department budget (funds 131 and 176). By unanimous roll call the commission approved Resolution No. 2018‑071, a $2,500 donation to the TRI‑COUNTY HONOR GUARD to support rendering military funeral honors to veterans. Chairman recognized Gary Hansard, who spoke for the organization; the resolution directs a corresponding budget amendment.
A separate item on county surplus property was withdrawn from the agenda after Commissioner Juanita Honeycutt presented a recorded deed and the county attorney advised no action was necessary. The commission then adopted Resolution No. 2018‑073 to formalize agenda preparation: the County Clerk will prepare the agenda, date/time‑stamp any submitted resolutions, and provide copies to the County Mayor; the resolution also states the County Mayor shall assist in agenda preparation. That measure passed by roll call vote.
Several measures required formal roll calls; the minutes record who moved and seconded each motion and the final tallies. The meeting adjourned after appointments to a new finance committee were completed.
