Nemaha County commissioners approve probation budget, interlocal fuel agreement and vehicle purchase

At their May 21 meeting in Auburn, Nemaha County commissioners approved the District #1 Probation FY 2025-2026 budget and interlocal agreement with the State, executed an interlocal agreement with the Nemaha Fire District governing fuel use and logs, accepted a Sapp Brothers fuel bid for June, and authorized purchase of an F450 pickup for Road District #3.
The Nemaha County Board of Commissioners on May 21, 2025, in the Commissioner’s Chambers in Auburn approved a series of administrative and procurement actions, including the FY 2025-2026 District #1 Probation budget, interlocal agreements with state and local partners, a June fuel bid and a vehicle purchase for the road department.
Chairman Michael Weiss and Commissioners Mike Hall and Bryan Mellage voted unanimously on the recorded motions. The board also held a brief executive session to consult with legal counsel early in the meeting and heard EMA items and a public hearing on a county property transfer to the City of Peru for which no objections were recorded.
The most consequential fiscal item was approval of the District #1 Probation budget and accompanying interlocal agreement with the State of Nebraska. The board approved the probation budget as presented in the amount of $5,965.52 and signed the interlocal agreement formalizing the county’s relationship with the state probation office.
On interlocal arrangements with local partners, the board approved an interlocal agreement with the Nemaha Fire District to govern use of the county’s fuel pumps. The agreement requires the fire district to keep monthly logs recording date, time, purpose and the contact name for each user and directs reconciliation between fuel logs and invoices for accurate tracking.
For county fuel procurement, the board accepted the June 2025 bid from Sapp Brothers: #2 clear diesel at $2.74 per gallon and regular with ethanol at $2.514 per gallon.
In equipment and capital decisions, the board authorized purchase of an F450 Ford pickup from Federal Surplus for Road District #3 at a purchase price of $18,500.00. The board also adopted Resolution #2025-10, a clarification on driveway agreements, and tabled a driveway agreement for Nickalex Properties LLC until the June 3, 2025 meeting.
The board appointed County Clerk Diane Johnson as the Budget Making Authority for FY 2025-2026 and authorized the county’s signature on the FY 2025-2026 grant application to the State of Nebraska for the Four County Juvenile Diversion program.
Other administrative actions included approval of two Amended and Restated Agreements for formation of the Region V Community Human Services Program (one referencing Region 5 Systems and the other referencing APACE) and routine authorization of payroll and vendor claims as listed in the approved minutes. A transfer of $200,000 to the Nemaha County Treasurer was among the disbursements recorded in the claims listing.
