Nemaha County approves NIRMA insurance renewal with 9.6% increase; treasurer requests new tracking fund

The Nemaha County Board of Commissioners voted June 3 to approve the county’s FY 2025–2026 insurance renewal with the Nebraska Intergovernmental Risk Management Association (NIRMA). Commissioners noted a 9.6% premium increase compared with the prior year.
Motion to approve the renewal was made by Commissioner Bryan Mellage and seconded by Commissioner Mike Hall; roll call was Hall, aye; Mellage, aye; Weiss, aye. The board approved the renewal as presented.
Separately, Treasurer Gerdes requested adding a new fund to the FY 2025–2026 budget to track Emergency Management Agency (EMA) items (including a rehab unit), Veterans aid, and a Veterans Memorial. The board directed that a resolution to create the fund and add a new budget function for Planning & Zoning be prepared for consideration at the next meeting; the minutes record that a resolution will be signed at the next meeting but do not include the resolution text or fund amounts.
