Nemaha County commissioners approve claims, reschedule June meeting and table dust-control form

The Nemaha County Board of Commissioners approved accounts payable claims, rescheduled the June meeting, discussed grounds and highway matters and adjourned at 10:40 a.m. during its May 7, 2025 session in Auburn.

A motion to approve the accounts payable claims was passed by roll call with Commissioners Hall, Mellage and Weiss voting "aye." The claims list in the minutes includes a number of line items across general and road funds; notable disbursements listed in the minutes include a $200,000 entry to the Nemaha County Treasurer, $49,208.92 to Martin Marietta and $35,423.12 to Whetrock Inc., among many smaller claims. The minutes do not present a single summed total for all claims approved.

Commissioner Mike Hall moved, and Commissioner Bryan Mellage seconded, to change the regular Wednesday, June 4, 2025 commissioners meeting to Tuesday, June 3, 2025 so board members could attend the Commissioner’s Conference in Kearney; the motion passed unanimously.

Under unfinished business the Board reviewed a request related to Section 28, T5N R13E that requires a survey for a potential subdivision presented by Keith Bohling; no action was taken. Commissioners also discussed ordering mulch for the courthouse grounds. Highway Superintendent items included project updates, a request to clarify the county culvert-size policy for driveways and consideration of a standard form for dust-control requests on county roads; the dust-control form was tabled for further consideration.

With no further business the Board adjourned at 10:40 a.m. County Clerk Diane Johnson certified the minutes as the official record.
