Joe introduced a 15-year contract in which the county operates the district’s youth recreation program this year, running boys and girls basketball. "They pay us basically to run their program, so this is to run boys and girls basketball for this year," Joe said. He explained the district pays $2,000 per sport — $4,000 total — which the county uses to pay referees.
The contract was signed by the school board two weeks earlier and was submitted to the commission for approval. The commission placed the item on the agenda for formal action at a future meeting.
