Claiborne County approves $200,000 state grant for health department building work

Chairman Mike Campbell presided as the Claiborne County Commission on Nov. 18 approved a $200,000 state grant to fund building improvements for the Claiborne County Health Department.
The vote, recorded as Resolution 2019-083, passed unanimously by roll call. Commissioner Whitt Shuford sponsored the budget amendment, which records $200,000 in state grant revenue and directs the county to spend $135,000 on building improvements, $50,000 on building maintenance and $15,000 on heating and air conditioning equipment.
County Clerk Karen Hurst attested the resolution. The measure is new grant money and requires no local match; the resolution states it takes effect upon passage. The action was presented under New Business after a brief reminder from Commissioner Steve Brogan about prior vehicle-labeling follow-up.
The commission did not attach additional conditions to the grant spending during the session. The resolution text directs that the amendment be reflected in the county budget to allow expenditure of the funds.
The commission moved on to other budget items after recording the unanimous vote.
