On infrastructure, City Engineer Ed Piatek briefed the council on a resurfacing project for State Route 237 (PID 01/4042). Piatek said the work covers roughly 3,080 feet from just north of Sheldon Road to just south of the Eastland intersection, and will include mill‑and‑fill, partial full‑depth asphalt repairs and pavement work. Piatek said ODOT agreed to cover 100% of the bridge wearing‑surface overlay on the IX Center Drive bridge; NOACA pledged up to 80% of improvement costs, up to $900,000, and Piatek gave a current project estimate of about $2.1 million for all work. The ordinance before the committee would authorize a consulting engineer to prepare plans and specifications; council moved the item to the council agenda for first reading.
What’s next: the city will seek reimbursement per the grant process after council passage of the enabling ordinances; engineering work is scheduled to prepare plans for a 2026 bid window with the possibility of 2027 construction if timing shifts.
