Cramerton board appoints members, schedules budget work session and reviews local projects

At its Feb. 17 meeting, the Town of Cramerton Board of Commissioners approved several routine personnel and scheduling items, and heard multiple project updates affecting downtown infrastructure and community programming.
The board accepted the Planning and Zoning Board’s recommendation, appointing Ron Stewart and reappointing Brad Milton to the planning board; the motion by Commissioner Helms was seconded by Commissioner Kincaid and passed 4–0. Mayor Pro Tempore Neeley moved to appoint Kayla Lackey as an alternate to the Cramerton Community Committee; Commissioner Ramsey seconded and the motion passed 4–0.
Commissioner Helms moved to set a full-day FY 2022–23 budget work session for Wednesday, March 30; Commissioner Kincaid seconded and the board approved the schedule 4–0.
In project updates, Mayor Nelson Wills said the downtown stormwater project is preparing to go to bid and that Two Rivers Utilities will relocate a water line in Center Street as a first step; the Town Manager projected construction to begin Feb. 28 with Center Street closed for about five to six days and traffic detoured to the Front Street alleyway. Businesses will be notified at the start of the next week, and signage and social-media updates were recommended.
Staff reports included a police update from Chief Brad Adams noting de-escalation training and increased patrol presence, a fire department report that the ladder truck is scheduled for Sept. 11 delivery, and Planning Director Josh Watkins saying the draft Land Use Plan will be presented to the board in April and that a stormwater audit is scheduled for next week. Mayor and commissioners also highlighted community events including a River Sweep set for March 26 and local public programming organized by the Community Committee.
What’s next: The board will hold the scheduled budget work session in late March; the Redhawk rezoning (RZ22-01) public hearing is set for March 3, and staff will report back on the stormwater audit and design-bid timeline.
