Cramerton schedules special meeting after low bidder disqualified; approves traffic-calming study

The Town of Cramerton Board on March 17 heard a procurement update on the Downtown Stormwater/Parking/Event Space capital project and scheduled a special called meeting after Labella Engineering determined the apparent low bidder was not qualified.
Town staff said three bids were received. Danny Watson of LaBella Engineering reported that Draw Enterprises, the apparent low bidder, was not a qualified bidder; the Town identified the next lowest bid from Site Services of the Carolinas, LLC at $785,968.05 versus a preliminary project budget of $800,000 and a 5% contingency. Labella Engineering will complete due diligence on Site Services and the Board agreed to hold a special called meeting Wednesday, March 23 at 5:30 p.m. to consider an award; a newspaper notice will be published.
On traffic issues, Commissioner Helms moved to request a traffic-calming/review study from NCDOT Division 12 for the Eighth Avenue and Tenth Street intersection. NCDOT indicated it could perform a study and report back in about 2–4 months at no cost to the Town. The Board approved the request 5-0.
Separately, Viz proposed a $2,900 aesthetics rendering for the Eighth Avenue railroad underpass; the Board debated whether to prioritize beautification over safety fixes such as guardrails and took no action on the $2,900 proposal at this meeting.
