Service Director Brian Beyer told the council that recent thaws exposed sod and sidewalk damage from plowing and invited residents to contact the service garage to be added to a repair list for spring work. He said Cleveland Water is handling roughly three active water breaks and the city has seen about 10 water breaks this winter to date.
Beyer said the city will upfit one rear‑loader truck and purchase dumpsters to better control recycling collection that has been handled by a private contractor (Royal Oak). He described the city's existing paper/cardboard recycling center located across from the service garage as part of the local response to inconsistent private service.
City Engineer Mitch B. briefed the council on ODOT‑led projects: resurfacing on route 237 between Eastland and Brookpark Road is advancing, with the state looking to sell the contract in June; an adjacent segment between Sheldon and Eastland is advancing in design for next year's construction; and an Eastland Road presignal project has been awarded and is coordinating inspection and flagging with the railroad.
Council members also discussed e‑bike safety after reports of riders without lights and near‑misses in driveways; several council members suggested an outreach program reminding residents of updated ordinances and advising that incidents be reported to police as standard traffic/incident reports.
